The circular walk leads through the district of Ostrau with its magnificent wooden villas to Hohe Liebe. The tour begins and ends on the market square in Bad Schandau.
The tour starts at the Elbe car park in Bad Schandau. We follow the Elbe promenade upstream along the Elbe and turn left behind the Toskana Therme spa in the direction of the "passenger lift". The historic lift takes you up 50 metres in a very short time. The platform of the lift offers a beautiful view of Bad Schandau and the Elbe valley.
We follow the lift path moderately uphill to the Bad Schandau district of Ostrau. We admire the magnificent wooden villas along the Ostrauer Ring and follow the local road to the junction to Bad Schandau. On the footpath along Falkensteinstraße, we follow the "Roter Strich" markings to the Zum Falkenstein restaurant. Here our hiking trail branches off to the left and initially leads along a comfortable, slightly ascending path to the "Ascent to Hohe Liebe" junction. Here the ascent becomes a little steeper and after approx. 15 minutes we reach the turn-off to the view and the mountaineering memorial, which commemorates the fallen mountaineers in the First World War. From here, we have a beautiful view of the Affensteine with the striking Bloßstock and the rock formations of the Hintere Sächsische Schweiz.
After descending from the clifftop, we turn left and follow the "Roter Strich" markings downhill again to the next major junction. We keep to the right and walk to the Wenzelsweg, onto which we branch off to the right again. We follow the Wenzelsweg for a short distance until the Elbleitenweg branches off to the left. On the right, we can see the Falkenstein through the treetops. After a short, steep ascent, we turn right into the Schießgrund. From here we have a clear view of the Falkenstein. In the Schießgrund, we descend over easy forest steps into the "Zahnsgrund".
We keep left and follow the road for a short distance. Behind the Schrammsteinbaude restaurant, a path on the right marked "Ostrau car park" leads uphill through the Klüftelweg. Initially, the path climbs steeply over steps, later on a straight path, until we reach the village of Ostrau again.
The way back to Bad Schandau follows the same path that we already know from the start of our hike.
